In 2024, England Golf proudly commemorated a century of supporting and promoting amateur golf. This milestone was marked with a year-long celebration, beginning with a prestigious awards ceremony in Manchester, bringing together key figures from across the sport.
Although an agency initially developed a centenary logo, the team sought a design that resonated more deeply with England Golf’s heritage and vision. Having established a strong working relationship through previous projects, they invited me to design alternative options.
The Brief
England Golf wanted a 100-year logo or emblem that could seamlessly accompany their main logo, incorporating circular elements, key years, and possibly a strapline. To meet these requirements, I initially created three options, each designed to highlight this centenary milestone. I always start with black-and-white designs, as this approach emphasizes the logo’s balance and functionality, ensuring it works well across any color scheme. This method helps refine the design for maximum versatility and impact across all branding materials.

The Clear Winner
The design below quickly emerged as the team’s favorite, especially in a gold embossed finish. However, they felt it overpowered the main logo and wanted to incorporate the iconic England Golf rose or full logo within this design.


The Final Logo
With a few refinements, I centered the England Golf rose within the outer circle, achieving a balanced look by integrating “100” with the same spacing as the outer circle’s with the "0" breaking out to match the gap beneath the “1.” This adjustment kept the design cohesive and visually pleasing. The clear “100” rendered the dates sufficient, so we replaced the anniversary wording with “England Golf” text. The team chose the gold foil embossed version, which gave the logo a distinguished, celebratory finish. This logo was selected as the official anniversary logo, used throughout the year to honor this incredible legacy.

A Special Occasion
The logo’s debut took place on Tuesday, 13 February, marking a historic night for England Golf as they celebrated their 100th anniversary with the Centenary Dinner & Awards in Manchester, the organisation’s birthplace. I designed a commemorative booklet for the event, featuring award nominations, the evening’s menu, and a visual history of England Golf. This was an incredibly rewarding project, and I’m proud to have contributed to such a significant milestone in the organisation’s history.
